Psycle 101

Trying anything new is intimidating. But don’t worry, we’ve got you! This quick tutorial is designed to help you feel in control + confident the first time you clip in with us.

Feeling nervous about this whole spin thing? Don’t worry, we’ve got you! You belong here.

What to expect:

Breathing Room Psycle is an inclusive studio offering a full body workout; cardio, choreography and strength with small hand weights.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR + BRING? We recommend wearing breathable clothing, likea tank top or t-shirt and comfortable leggings or shorts. We will provide you with shoes at the front desk, but you’re welcome to bring your own. At Breathing Room Psycle, our bikes have SPD clips. There will be a fresh towel waiting for you on your bike. Bring a water bottle and remember to hydrate before, during and after each ride!

SHOULD I ARRIVE EARLY? Yes! Please make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes before your first ride with us, there’s nothing worse than feeling rushed when visiting a new studio. Our team will take it from there and ensure you have an awesome experience with us. Please note that if you do not arrive a minimum of 5 minutes before the ride start time, we cannot guarantee that you will be allowed entry into class as priority is then given to those who are waitlisted and present.

HOW DO I CHECK IN? If you’ve already booked yourself in through Punchpass (highly recommended), make your way to the front desk and ensure you cross your name off on the bike map. Any unchecked spots may be given away 5 minutes before the ride to those on standby. If you are not signed-in, we’ll assume you’re not here. We encourage all first-time riders to choose bikes toward the back of the room so that they can follow along with the rhythm of the group.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN INJURY? We trust that you’ve done your spin research and you’re well aware that the major joints of your body will experience low impact for the duration of your ride. If you have any injuries or concerns, please tell your instructor upon arrival and we’ll do our best to offer modifications that will ensure the best ride possible.

IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT? Yes. We require psycle participants to be a minimum of 18 years of age. Participants 16 years of age may come if accompanied by an adult. Explicit lyrics can be expected and by no means reflect the feelings or spirit of Breathing Room. Age exceptions will be made for private bookings.

UMMMM, NOW WHAT? Once set-up and given a brief tutorial by our team on the hand and height positions — clip in and listen to your body, if something feels off — the team is available at any time to help. If you’re good to go, might as well get a pre-warm up in.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW? Before each ride, check in with your body and bike. Ensure all adjustment knobs are properly set and tightened. Your shoes should be securely clipped in before the start of the ride. Let a team member know if you require assistance clipping into the pedals. Finally, our instructors are here to push and motivate you! Please remember to listen to your body and push yourself in a way that is challenging but comfortable. We are a no judgement space here to support you on your personal fitness journey.

Bike Set-up

Here at Breathing Room, we’re BIG believers that proper bike set-up will keep your body healthy, help you optimize efficiency and amp up your overall confidence. Below are a few tips and tricks. However, it would be our absolute honor to walk you through the steps in person.

1. After you've been fitted with spin shoes, stand next to your bike, and lift your closest leg to 90 degree angle. Your saddle (that spin-glish for “seat”) should be approximately at your hip bone.

2. Once you’re clipped in, extend one leg. There should be a slight bend in your knee.

3. Handlebars should be set at the same height, or slightly higher than your saddle. Hot tip: if you tend to suffer from low back pain, a higher setting will minimize unnecessary strain.

4. Holding your feet parallel to the ground, look over your front knee and ensure that you can still see your toe (like 1-1.5 inches). If your knee's are over your toes, move your saddle back slightly.

Sound Sensitivity?

There’s no question, the beats are bumpin’ in our spin studio, it’s a PARTY! If you find it too lound, please swing by the front desk and we’ll hook you up with ear plugs you can keep.
